Basteltraum's Challgenge #106 Christmas

Hello and welcome again!

How are you? Already in the mood for Christmas crafting getting started? Yes? Great! No? Well, maybe I can inspire you to do so :-)

The latest Bastel-Traum Challenge is all about Christmas, so let's dive in!

The card I created is not that typically Christmas-y. I went for a classy sentiment, but the image is rather a winter one than I have to think of Christmas at first. But! The mood image with its beautiful northern lights on it made me grabbing for this adorable yeti. He is just the perfect pal waving a merry Christmas to its recipient :-)

I colored first everything with watercolors. Then I went over with colored pencils for the details. I gave the yeti a furry texture and the trees some extra depth. the background is brushed with just three oxide inks. I started with the lightest one and went through the darkest at the end. Then I put some distress glaze over the whole panel and then flicked some white watercolor ink over it to imitate a starry sky. The Distress Glaze (same as micro glaze from other brands) really helps that the white ink stays white after drying. Otherwise it would soak into the panel and the distress oxide reacts with it and stains it blueish, greenish, etc. A super tiny paint brush helped me to draw in that star with rays.

I found a tiny scrap piece of glittered cardstock for my snowy hill, cannot remember what brand it was :-). The sentiment is diecut from a piece of extra thick fun foam.

At the end I just had to adhere all pieces and voilà - there you have this cute northern lights scene :-)

I hope you will play along with us - see you there!

Happy crafting!
